About me

I work as an editor, content strategist and web developer. Primarily, I work for Bellingham PR & Communications, doing writing, editing and web development, and as an independent contractor for the Food and Agriculture Organization and other United Nations entities, working as an English-language editor of major publications, conference documents and reports.

I’ve spent nearly a decade working in higher education, as a communications expert and adjunct professor of journalism. I’ve also been the editor of a weekly newspaper, a music columnist and, for nearly a decade, a garbage collector (which is what makes my kids most proud).

My editing focus is on academic works by authors whose primary language is not English. I excel at turning complicated texts into readable academic-level work.

Testimonials

“First of all, I must say once again that I am impressed with job you did, with your professionalism and commitment. I have never ever seen someone so patient and determined. I am sure I can’t imagine how difficult that is, especially since this report deals with many issues. I shared the edited document with some of my colleagues here to show how the edited text should look like (in any language, including Serbian). I can’t judge about English, grammar and syntax, but I am experienced enough to recognize work ethic.”

“I strongly recommend hiring Matthew Anderson as your resume/CV editor. As a recent graduate of a medical fellowship program, I am finally entering the job market, and we all know how important the CV is in the hiring process. I used to think the CV as an organized list that is supposed to ‘look good’ following the myriad of guidelines available on the web. That being said, nothing can replace the personal touch of an expert editor like Matthew. He made subtle adjustments to my CV to ‘provide various points of entry for the eye to land when perusing the document,’ as he gracefully put it.”

“What you did is great. I’m someone who’s not afraid to say I need help, and on this redesign, I was stuck. Your comments are very helpful and spot on.”
