Expertise

Certified editor, Board of Education in the Life Sciences

Through its rigorous exam process, the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences evaluates the proficiency of manuscript editors in the life sciences. This is to give potential employers and clients an objective way to assess an editor’s proficiency.

Editors who are certified as editors in the life sciences have passed the BELS process for testing and evaluating proficiency in editing in the life sciences. BELS examinations are written by senior life-science editors, with assistance from testing experts, and focus on the principles and practices of scientific editing in English.

Advanced professional members of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading have demonstrated a high level of skill and expertise, backed by long and broad experience and by ongoing – and recent – professional development, and often enhanced with editorial specialisms. The advanced professional membership is the highest ranking awarded by the CIEP.
